There are two Swissmedic Medicines Expert Committees (SMEC) that support Swissmedic with their external expertise: the Human Medicines Expert Committee (HMEC) and the Veterinary Medicines Expert Committee (VMEC).
The SMEC rules primarily regulate the composition, election and remit of these committees. In addition to formal changes and clarifications, the maximum number of ordinary VMEC members was increased from seven to nine in the amended rules. The ordinary VMEC can therefore be expanded as necessary.
The amended rules of the Swissmedic Medicines Expert Committees (SMEC) enter into force on 1 January 2025.
