Swissmedic and Germany’s Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) agree on closer cooperation in the area of veterinary medicines

18.05.2021

Today Tuesday, Swissmedic Director Raimund T. Bruhin and Friedel Cramer, President of the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of veterinary medicines. The MoU will provide a formal basis for working together more closely.

Swissmedic attaches a lot of importance to cooperation with Germany’s Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety, and not only in the context of the new regulations on veterinary medicinal products that are about to come into force. This is the first MoU relating solely to veterinary medicines and concluded with a leading European authority in the field.

The joint MoU aims not only to exchange information and documents but to promote understanding of each other’s regulatory frameworks, requirements and processes. In light of this, the MoU with the BVL has major strategic importance for Switzerland.

Swissmedic has been seeking to step up its cooperation with foreign partner authorities in the therapeutic products field for several years. Bilateral networking efforts are focusing primarily on therapeutic products agencies in the European Union and in countries of strategic interest to Switzerland.
