In view of its further steps in digitalisation, Swissmedic issued a public tender for its IT service needs. In the context of this tender process, the therapeutic products agency has awarded the corresponding services to Swisscom (Switzerland) Ltd for the next 15 years.
The outsourcing of IT services is intended to be long-term, for a period up to 2039
25.11.2024
On 13 July 2024 Swissmedic published its future needs with regard to IT services on simap.ch. In mid-November, the therapeutic products agency decided between two bids, and chose the provider Swisscom (Switzerland) Ltd. The company will be responsible for operating the infrastructure for professional applications, operating its hardware and software, providing information security services, and operating the necessary telecommunications services. In switching from its previous service provider, the Federal Office of Information Technology, Systems and Telecommunication (FOITT), to its new partner Swisscom (Switzerland) Ltd, Swissmedic is confident it will be best placed for future challenges in its international collaboration with leading therapeutic products agencies and the industry.
Award totalling CHF 185 million over 15 years
The outsourcing of IT services is intended to be long-term, for a period up to 2039. In addition to the services in the tender, the total award includes further options, anticipated growth due to further digitalisation, and expected price increase. From 2025, Swissmedic will migrate its current IT services from the FOITT to Swisscom (Switzerland) Ltd.
The bidder not chosen by Swissmedic has the right to appeal the decision in accordance with the Federal Act on Public Procurement.
